Psalms of Ascent – Psalm 123

Apr 01 in Steps of Ascent

Continuing on our pilgrimage journey to Jerusalem, where God reigns Supreme. He IS enthroned, a position of sovereign power, rulership and Kingship. The seat of government.. He speaks a Word and it is done! “He measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, And marked off the heavens by the span, And calculated the dust of the earth by the measure, And weighed the mountains in a balance…” Isaiah 40:12 and so we look to Him, as a child seeks the Father’s gaze. Looking to Him for deliverance, a way out, a way forward, direction, guidance, His plan. Dependent only upon Him. Seeking His mercy, His favour.

He hears our call when we turn to Him in our circumstances, when we seek Him with all our heart “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity.”Jeremiah 29:12-14 , like Hannah, desperately seeking God, she poured out her soul to Him, He heard her cry “Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him.”… “the Lord remembered her”.1 Samuel 1

“So our eyes look to the Lord our God” Elohiym : plurality in unity, speaks of the Trinity. Creator of the Heavens and the earth, King, Judge. His character compassionate, gracious and always faithful.

Reminds me of the story of Mephibosheth in 2 Samuel 4,9. Dropped as a child he was lame in both legs as his nurse fled with him at the news of his father’s death. He was taken to Lo Debar, a place meaning ‘no pasture’ a place of desolation and no promise; to the house of Ish-bosheth (meaning: man of shame). A place where he was defined by his injury. However, David remembers his blood-covenant promise to Jonathan and calls him out of Lo-Debar, reinstating him into a position of plenty, where he was to sit at the King’s table and take possession of his inheritance. Restored, accepted, redeemed, seated with the King… “you will always eat at my table” 2 Samuel 9:7

“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows. Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life, And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.”
