Psalms of Ascent – Psalm 122

Mar 16 in Steps of Ascent

Looking to and longing for the city of our God. Rejoicing at the thought of time spent with HIM, a desire to be in His presence, go deeper.

The tribes were to go up to Jerusalem to celebrate the holy festivals (Leviticus 23) a time of celebration and thanksgiving, reshuffling of priorities and future ambitions, a time of putting life back into its proper order. Divine alignment with the will and heart of God, re-focusing, coming back to Him, to the place where I belong where my heart and soul overflow with  worship.

Standing at the gates, I enter (Psalm 100) into a safe place, surrounded by fortified walls that don’t let the enemy in, the city with foundations,  whose architect and builder is God (Hebrews 11:10)  with the glory of God to illuminate it (Revelation 21:23) where He is my covering and realize that I am part of a far greater picture where God is building His temple with living stones ‘upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hell shall not prevail’ (Matthew 16:18).

People together in one place of one accord (Acts 2:1) in unity (not neglecting the assembling of ourselves together, Hebrews 10:25). He is El Elohe Yisrael: the covenant keeping God. A God of Justice. We pray for the peace of Jerusalem for in her are set the thrones of justice the thrones of kings.  Keep her as the apple of Thine eye, hide her in the shadow of Thy wings (Psalm 17)... ‘ for who knows whether  you have come to the Kingdom for such a time as this’ (Esther 4).
